V FOR VENDETTA × Natalie Portman
What lingers most vividly in my memory of V for Vendetta are its dystopian political worldview, the unsettling mask of the vigilante, and the bald appearance of the actress. At the time, my artistic training focused on cultivating patience through detailed depictions of natural elements like trees and flowers. To reflect this, I selected a photograph of Natalie Portman with her striking short hair look and a dress adorned with ornate floral motifs. On top of that, rather than depicting the film’s dark and oppressive atmosphere, a blank background was adopted to avoid detraction from the central figure. Yet, I incorporated roses—another symbol of Britian even though under totalitarian rule—to craft the shape of a “V”, serving to divide the heroine in the foreground from the haunting presence of the iconic Guy Fawkes mask in the back.
