BLADE RUNNER 2049 × Ana de Armas
Next, I tried the triangle composition, a structure traditionally suited for landscape painting. However, this archetype proved less effective for my portrait-centered illustration. Inspired by the sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner, I envisioned a half-length portrait suspended mid-air, encapsulating the film’s atmosphere of artificiality and otherworldliness. The background features sprawling urban high-rises, shrouded in neon lights and smog. I initially wanted to stick true to the photograph with more details, but the result felt visually overwhelming. Thus, I layered grey ink to soften the contrast. A similar approach was applied to the closer scene of abandoned giant statues in the barren wastelands, gradually darkened until the holographic figure of Ana de Armas emerged as the focal point.
